Define the term "extra cellular matrix." What are the three types of extra cellular matrices? Which types of connective tissue have each type of extra cellular matrix?
The extra cellular matrix of connective tissue is the collective term for the fibers and ground substance which house the cells of the tissue. Extra cellular matrices can exist in three states: solid, semi-solid, and liquid. Bone is a connective tissue with a solid extra cellular matrix. Loose and dense connective tissues as well as cartilage have semi-solid extra cellular matrices. Blood and lymph are connective tissues with liquid extra cellular matrices.
